Ants or Termites?

Many homeowners needlessly worry themselves by mistaking ants for termites. Here are some of of the more obvious differences between the two:

  • Ants and Termites Compared

    Ants have distinctly elbowed antennae. Termites have straight or gently curved antennae.

  • Ants have constricted "waists" and an hourglass shape. Termites' bodies are cigar-shaped.

  • When present, both the front and back wings of termites are about the same length. The front wing of an ant, when present, is longer than the back wing.
